This may be a good idea for us to practice as adults trying to get to know our students better. We often think we know all of them because it is a small town and we see everyone a lot, but I think we are probably missing out on more than we realize. Read about 30 seconds and 3 minutes here.

Ministry Can Hinder Your Ministry is a quick read and something good for all of to think about. It obviously applies to me in my job at the church, but also to us in our everyday lives. Are we trying to do so much that there is not time or space for anything else in our lives, especially God? Are we leaving any margins in our lives?
In our ministry here at FCC we need to remember to stick to our vision. There are endless things we can teach the students, tons of games we can play. lots of trips we could take – but when they leave we want them to remember one thing.

I came across this article by Perry Noble from NewSpring Church. He can be a controversial speaker, but often has a lot of truth in what he writes.
He wrote an article on how lead ministers can have a successful student ministry. Obviously none of us are a lead minister, but there are still insights to be gained from what he has to say. I think it is some really good stuff.

Good Sex Series

In less than two weeks we will kick off our sex series. I’m very excited that Alicia Julius will be presenting material that she uses in public schools for New Life Pregnancy Center. I know this is both an awkward and a much needed series. To be on the safe side I sent a letter home to parents that you can read here.
Today I was reading through some blogs and articles and unintentionally came across a few that are very relevant to our upcoming series. It made the need for this series seem even more vital. You may want to look over these:
Top 100 Kids’ Online Search Words for 2009. This is broken down into age groups and is very disturbing (also note there are a few inappropriate words used in the article).
Middle School Sex. This is an alarming article about sexual activity in middle school students.
I hope these resources are beneficial and eye opening as we kick off our new series.

Here is a funny article from the site Stuff Christians Like, a good humored satire with a lot of truth in it.
The article describes the Youth Minister Uniform. I was nervous to read it, but I think I faired pretty well. I don’t wear flashy shirts or drink obscene amounts of caffeine, so I have that going for me. I must admit I saw some truth about me (I’m sure you would agree that I am marrying up). It is really funny, check it out.
