The middle of the Bible contains what is known as the wisdom literature or what we’re going to call Poetry this week. Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes and Song of Songs are both troubling and insightful books. More than anywhere else in Scripture we get to peer into the lives of Biblical authors. We get to learn from their wisdom, their struggles, their failures and ultimately see their dependence upon God.
This week we hope to see that this section is more than just some quotable verses, but actually peers ahead to the person of Jesus. As we read about the incompleteness that this world has to offer or the Psalms crying out to know God, we can see a picture of Jesus through all of it.
